"It is here that the human spirit becomes perfect, and at the same time brutalised, that civilisation produces its marvels and that civilised man returns to the savage." Count Alexis de Toqueville
Anticipated View Point
We already know we’ll get off the plane in Manchester with a horrible case of jetlag, stiff backs and necks, cellphones without signals, and possible missing luggage. However, for first timers, we’ll notice right away how the city is burrowed comfortably into a ditch-shaped bowl, giving us the protection of the rolling Pennine Hills, which are an outstanding place of natural beauty. Then suddenly, the town transforms into a cosmopolitan mix of industrialized edifices and historic fortresses that will satiate our weary bodies with replenishing wonder and mystic satisfaction. We won’t be able to say anything for at least forty, clear seconds, because we will be too busy looking and listening; our body’s immature, camera lens focusing in on its newfound shots and angles. We’ll get shaken back into reality when we’re taking the next taxi to the long-awaited city center to see what’s happening, sleep or no sleep!
Upon arrival, we’ll observe that people from every nook and cranny of the planet will spill out from the Metrolink South Manchester Line, flooding Market Street at the junction of Piccadilly and Mosley Streets, hustling and bustling down the “Street Catwalk,” with full bags of shopped goods in both hands, and yes, one in the mouth, too, trying to navigate through the immensity of John Ryland’s University Library to discover the history beneath each book cover, maneuvering to survive at the Aerial Extreme on 38 adrenaline-rushing obstacles, battling T-Rex hands-on at The Manchester Museum, “flying” around from aircraft to aircraft at The Runaway Visitor Park & Concorde, or cheering on Manchester City or United by really getting into the game at The City of Manchester Stadium.
Credit Card Hot Zone: Market Street
Before setting foot on this street, please put a decent limit on your credit cards because the fashionable clothes, numerous name brands, and other spectacular odds and ends never end! The shopping race begins at Picadilly Gardens and the finish line is at Deansgate! Put on your shopping shoes, snoop around, and find out what’s in each well-displayed shop!! Don’t bring your watch, but do bring your wallet! If you get groggy or that tired feeling again like on the airplane, take a break at one of Market Street’s fabulous, mouth-watering restaurants and chow down on a succulent, garlic chicken tikka, and wash it down with an ice-cold Coca Cola at one of the best eating stops! Good luck fitting the shopping bags in the trunk
John Ryland’s University Library
Be sure to judge all of these books by their INSIDES as you get comfortable in a cozy chair, taking a break from the shop-a-thon mania at this broody, yet inviting, gothic superstructure! Being one of Manchester’s number one attractions for its “journeys” to prehistory or modernism, you’ll certainly get a whiff of bygone expeditions, significant discoveries, religious resurrections, and much more! Survey the endless, filled shelves full of antique treasures, ancient manuscripts, and more that are piled from the floor to the ceiling! In the end, it’ll be a delicious meal for the mind! The ironic part of it all is that you’ll do all of this magical discovering from the seat cushion of the chair of your choice in The Reading Room
The Aerial Extreme
Who’s up next for this crazy adventure? Dare yourself to complete all 38 exciting obstacles as you run, jump, fly, bounce, and go against Mother Nature! Climb rocky walls, jump in midair, zip from one place to another on the pulley, truly enjoy yourself to the max! Come with your family or friends because as we say, “the more, the merrier.” Don’t let this challenge slip through your fingers. Hold on to the rope and let gravity take its course. You’ve got all day!
The Manchester Museum
Forget the map and let your kids go wild as they go to a museum where they can touch, pick-up, play with, and handle the exhibits! Smile for the camera with T-Rex, or try to escape the mummies from Ancient Egypt in case they escape from their tombs! Watch and discover some of the most slimy and warty reptiles (don’t forget to take extra flies for feeding purposes)
The Runaway Visitor Park & Concorde
Take the first flight on your favorite aircraft powered by the imagination! Sit in the pilot’s cockpit and let your creativity lift you off and escape to the clouds! Say "cheese" for the camera as you pretend to operate the plane and play with the controls! Imagine yourself weightless and let the whipping wind and sizzling sun take its course. Who knows where the next flight will go? It’s truly worth the trip. Remember to bring the salty, airplane peanuts and a chilled Coke in the can for the flight
The City of Manchester Stadium
"Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it." Mark Radcliffe Radio
Since football unsurprisingly lurks all over this city, you won’t be able to avoid the moody glances exchanged between fans or players, nor will you want to miss cheering on Manchester City OR United, since they are some of the most notable teams in The Champions League. Take a guided tour that will help you understand how they got to where they are now, and why they are so sought-after by crazed fans. If not, get into the action, buy yourself a cold Pepsi and a juicy hotdog, sit back, relax, and enjoy the game with your friends, family or other fans! Sing the chants, blow whistles, make noise, jump up and down, make “the wave,” but support your team LOYALLY
