If we want to visit one of prettiest islands of southern Europe, we are planning surely to visit Canary Islands in their entirety, and the island of Tenerife in particular. This wonderful island territory has a personality that makes it unique. Canary Islands as a whole consist of the main islands of El Hierro, La Gomera, La Palma and Tenerife, but there are also small islands, being La Graciosa the only one of these small territories which are inhabited. But all of the main inhabited islands, offer great attractions and we have to mention especially the capital cities of Las Palmas in Gran Canaria and Santa Cruz de Tenerife, because both are the main touristic points in the islands, in addition to the cities that share capital being of the entire island area. If we have time, we can visit easily between the islands themselves but having just a small time weshouldn't miss especially a visit to the island of Tenerife (probably, with the permission of the other, the most famous and visited) and we visit there at the city, Santa Cruz de Tenerife and very especially Puerto de la Cruz.

Usually you arrive on Tenerife island by air. Despite being a small island, Tenerife has two airports: Los Rodeos airport in Tenerife North and Reina Sofia airport in South Tenerife. Most people land in the first one. First of all: you have to take into account that as soon as you arrive, time is one hour less tan time in the iberic peninsula. Already placed in your hotel or apartment? Then it’s time to start your tour around these famous islands, which main identity are summer temperatures all the year long and canary bananas.

Once you moved in to your accommodation (a very good choice is to stay in the town of Puerto de la Cruz), a good option to wander around Tenerife is to rent a car, but if you do not want to drive or you want to save, on the island of Tenerife will not be difficult to move to other alternative transport like bus or taxi, for while Tenerife is a relatively small island, it is well communicated and designed by and for tourism but also to live, so communications are fluent and if what we want are parallel visits and excursions, they are well organized to perform either individually or in groups.

Once you have chosen your way of locomotion to move around the island, starts your exciting visit. Tenerife undoubtedly has prepared many surprises that will make yours a memorable stay. So unforgettable that when travelers have been just for a few days on the island, they would wish not to return to their homes, even more, if we talk to people on the island is not difficult to find someone who explains that he went to the island to spend a nice holiday and now takes many years living in the island and never returned, there must be a reason for it!
If anything is likely to influence this feeling of comfort and pleasure for that island is the warmth of its climate and the warmth of its people and particularly a sense of continuous summer takes us away from that unhealthy stress that we are used .

According to the time of the year you arrive on the island of Tenerife, do not miss the famous carnivals on the island. Parades, fun masks, floats and queens, processions and street musicians are part of this colorful crowded event, that attracts thousands of tourists and locals each year. The carnival, already declared International Tourist Interest, both official carnival with its groups contest, the election of the queens and floats parades such as the street popular carnival, is a must-see event for those looking joy and party. If we are lucky enough to be on the island on Christmas celebrations we should not miss the January 5, a magical day for children, the Procession of the Magi, which makes the streets of Puerto de la Cruz, this, at dusk, with summer temperatures and a flowered streets is one of the more subtle but beautiful performances that we witnessed.
However, two essential visits: :

A visit to Loro Park (a zoo thematic with native species, exotic animals and several shows, highly recommended especially if you’retraveling with children).

A trip to Mount Teide, is not easy to climb to one of the highest peaks in Spain, but the visit to the Teide National Park, it is worthwhile in itself.

If you are to climb the volcano Teide, you may contract for example a joint trip to a typical house in Tenerife, in any case we inform that there are many operators offering package prices including several attractions (Teide & Loro Park + Typical house and multiple variables among these or other attractions, according to the option can cost between 25 and 50 €. Heed these combined proposals such as the individual entry only adult Loro Park is priced at € 32 and € 21 children).

Busiest area of the Island of Tenerife is Playa de las Americas, south of the island. Here we have the largest concentration of proposals with regard to food, good scenery, excellent beaches, all day and night entertainment you can think of. And speaking of food, we can not leave the island without tasting some Canarian dishes such as potatoes with mojo and leg of pork or fish, or ask for the well known “guachinches”, places where you can taste typical Canarian food at low prices. We just have to find one of these establishments and get carried away.

Before we leave this island, we should walk around the fantastic coves and beaches, some of them with an amazing black sand. Some, like Playa la Arena with dark sand, Playa del Medano (with almost 3 km is the largest natural beach in Tenerife), Playa de Troya (fine golden sand) and the artificial beach of Las Vistas have achieved Blue Flag status (meet stringent criteria relating to service delivery, water quality, security, etc). For those seeking water sports, each beach is an opportunity: the Beach the Medano, usually accessed by practitioners of kite surfing and windsurfing, Playa del Socorro in the north and Playa de Almaciga are well known by surfers.
