Barcelona, Mediterranean capital city, for many people: the capital city of Mediterraneo, Barcelona city with its emphasized modernism, cosmopolitan, open and avant-garde, but even jealous of its tradition and culture, proud about what it is. Proud to be integrated to the world, proud to be Catalan.

Undoubtedly, a visit to Barcelona is a must for anyone who wants to see the world, you want to leave their city, whether you're a collector of cities or, otherwise, you're a very casual traveler, Barcelona one of those cities that should be in the top of any list of cities to visit, is the city that if tomorrow you might know that you can not travel any more, you should return there to visit it last.

Barcelona is one of the largest and most famous cities in the world but unlike many other world capitals Barcelona is easy and comfortable to visit, it is said that Barcelona was made just to fit the human being. That's not a city too small neither too big. It is a city to walk, to stroll, to enjoy.

Where to stay

We recommend you to go with your hotel booking done, not to lose time on this because the supply is plentiful and, as you know, you can find better prices online instead of visiting the hotel reception. As in any touristic city, Barcelona offers many housing options, you can find the best price, in the list of hotels in Barcelona that the Tourists Club recommends you. As for locations, the most strategic area to stay is the district of the Eixample (L'Eixample) (herein also we link you to booking.com page with hotels in L'Eixample) where you can do most of the city tours. If you want more specifically nearby the stunning Sagrada Familia, you can find here several hotels. Another good district to stay is Ciutat Vella and within this, if you like old architecture, you can stay directly in the Gothic neighbourhood. But leave us and your bags and get out to visit Barcelona.

Our city tour

A walk through Barcelona will have to be planned according to your tastes and the time you have to make the trip, but if we have a limited time and a tight budget, you shouldn't loose following advices about what to visit:

As soon as you arrive in Barcelona by land, sea or air, your central point should be located at Plaza Catalunya, this will be your zero point. To get there from the airport you could take a train for about 2 € which will take just about 20 minutes to arrive that square, moreover, you have also a special bus from the airport (called Aerobus) that for less than 5 € it will take you to that place in about 15 minutes long. The main advantage of the bus over the train (Renfe) is its closer proximity and frequency, there are other alternatives that are quite impractical like city buses, or because it is not worth spend 30-40 € in a taxi, should not be measured (unless your particular conditions they see fit). If you arrive by other means of transportation, the metro (in red or green line) will take you to the same place and then the subway, buses, recently the modern tram and walking is the best way to get around the city, as the cost of such transport is very affordable and you can always view maps and fares on the website www.tmb.cat

Before leaving the square you can take a while to see the various sculptures that are placed in this tract of five acres. From this point, we propose a basic route that you can structure in the order you want: Barcelona is divided into two parts, which overlooks the sea and overlooking the mountains, in addition to its large hub is the center of the city. All of them have interesting things to visit.

At Barcelona faced to the sea, you should not miss a tour of the Olympic Port area with its impressive visual proposal, the Maremagnum, and in general throughout the area of the beach and the sea in general, if you are already located in the area of the Columbus statue you can climb the famous Ramblas and lose yourself in a beautiful walk through them among businesses of all kinds, artists, bars, etc, where converging tourists and locals alike. From the Ramblas you can visit the Lyceum Theatre, one of the most important opera theaters in the world, Boquearía market, food market centennial and symbol of the vitality of this city and its Mediterranean cuisine. Also from the Ramblas you can (and should) loose yourself by the beautiful streets of the Gothic Quarter of the city (again, you will find some of the most interesting museums in the city but not the only ones) and a little above you can access the hub of the city where you can upload for example Paseo de Gracia where you will find two of Gaudí's most unique buildings such as Casa Batlló and La Pedrera (10 € is the approximate price of entry into the latter).
Another place that can not be missed, and continuing with Gaudí, and not far from the center of the city is the better-known Holy Family Cathedral, known to locals as the eternal work, which will never end, that what seems that its construction will survive them all, entry is also relatively affordable for about 15 € depending on the type of ticket you can visit. Here a recommendation known by few, is even without going to the temple from the outside position in the parks that are in front and from a tiny lake in one of them sit in the distance in one of its banks and watch a beautiful sunset, watching changing colors of that colossal construction.

To end the basic "pack" of Gaudí and, by the way, taking the way to Barcelona faced to the mountain you shouldn't miss the Güell Park, in it we can see the fantastic architecture of this great Catalan architect, stroll for its beautiful scenery and see some beautiful views of the city and if after visited the Park Güell we still want more green places, we can always go up to Tibidabo, to visit its attractions if we have children, gaze at those unique views and give a stroll through the green lung of Barcelona, Collserola Park or move ourself to the mountain of Montjuïc, Olympic Mountain, now a great repository of botanical gardens and unparalleled symbol of union between the sea and the mountain that symbolizes Barcelona city so well

In this brief and concise explanation is far from getting everything you need to visit and discover in Barcelona, but certainly this explanation is a basic manual for travelers who want to know at a glance the essential Barcelona.
