Rio de Janeiro is everything you search in a city, and as if that weren't enough, you have also beautiful beaches. Because it seems impossible to think about Brazil and not go to the beach, Rio has also a lot of beaches with a plenty of characteristics to satisfy any vacationer. We are noting here that summer temperatures in January and February can be very high well above 30 degrees during the day so it is recommended to use sunscreen. In winter, temperatures rarely drop from the 17 degrees so that the city (and beaches) are year-round tourism. Note also that during Carnival, Rio de Janeiro receives nearly a million tourists from around the world for the event so, if you're not interested in participate in Carnival celebration, is beter if you choose a date not so popular. We leave here a description of the best beaches of Rio de Janeiro.
Copacabana and Leme
One of the most popular beaches of Rio de Janeiro, is named for a copy of a Madonna originated in Bolivia, who has a sanctuary in this area. It is one of the most famous postcards of Rio de Janeiro, but not the best beaches. You can visit it if you choose to book a hotel near there. At night, the beach is usually lit and with a full police presence.
Praia do Arpoador
This small beach of about 500 meters is halfway between Copacabana and Ipanema, two landmarks of Rio de Janeiro. The Praia do Arpoador is a favorite for native surfers to surf a bit without straying far from the tourist center of the city of Rio. Also in the area, there is a park called "Garota de Ipanema" in tribute to a popular brazilian song that is an hymn of Rio de Janeiro.
Ipanema
One of most prestigious and popular beaches in Rio de Janeiro. Its white sand, and its well stirred sea have become Ipanema into the favorite beach for tourists as well as for Cariocas themselves. Ideal for typical sports in brazilian beaches as soccer or volleyball, there are not only the courts, but also a beach sports school headed by a "Pelé" in beach volleyball. Also you can sit and have a beer, a caipirinha or just coconut water. If you wish, there is also a gay sector, if you want a more descontracturar and relaxed place.
Barra de Tijuca
This is the largest urban beach, and people here usually attend to practice some water sports, for example, here operates one of the most prestigious Surf schools in Brazil, headed by a world champion in this discipline. You'll also find plenty options of restaurants and bars during the first few miles, then the beach tends to calm down. Many people often compare the Barra, with Miami, because of the type of construction and commercial life. You can reach Barra de Tijuca by subway and bus (such as S - 107 or 500). Even a taxi from the airport costs about 70 Reais.
São Conrado and Pepino
Praia do Pepino is located west of Leblon, one of the most elegant areas of Rio, in Sao Conrado. As pleasant and nice as Ipanema but far much quieter than this. Many people who come to the Praia do Pepino, found here, an ideal place for paragliding or hang gliding. The color of these planners have given a new perspective to this beach of Sao Conrado. Here you get in 15 minutes from Leblon, right on Avenida Niemeyer across the Morro Dos Irmaos.
Prainha
One of the Cariocas and tourist's favorites who love deserted beaches, Prainha is an important extension of beach amid the green hills, its high waves have made it a heaven for surfers. From Rio you can get on a bus that takes about an hour to arrive. This bus, or Surf Bus, is conditioned for you to be able to travel with surfboards. This transport leaves from Largo do Machado, near Flamengo, and stops at various beaches up to Prainha.
Recreio dos Bandeirantes
Located in the west of the city of Rio de Janeiro. This beach is usually very crowded during the weekends, but during the week is almost empty. Located in a very quiet bay, this place is one of the favorites to visit with children. The beach is similar to the Barra de Tijuca, but with areas free of buildings which makes it much more wild and natural. You can get there from the center of Rio with bus number 179 destination Recreio.
Grumari
Without a doubt, the most isolated and best preserved beach of those located near the city of Rio de Janeiro, which is why it's a good way for cariocas to go out during the weekends . Long beaches, surrounded by intense green mountains, it has everything a good beach must have for you to want to stay all afternoon until the night finds you next to the sea. Even the Abricó sector is an excellent excuse to have a nudist experience. Grumari, a region considered a natural hiding place, that's why is so well preserved its environment, so it is somewhat difficult to reach. Therefore it is recommended that you travel to Barra de Tijuca or Recreio and from there you scroll through a van or minibus that can reach Grumari.
You see, no matter if you take in your blood sports and want to share the sand with excellent amateur players of soccer, volleyball or surfing, or if you are looking for a sunbath and sea, while admiring the lush richness of Rio landscape. No matter if you have your holidays during the Brazilian summer or if you arrive in the middle of the winter from Europe. No matter if you like the noise of thousands of holidaymakers on the beach or if you want to separate you in a proper portion of sand where the sound of the ocean is stronger than people. No matter who you are or what you want, Rio de Janeiro, the Beautiful City, also has a beach for you.
